Join us to discover the amazing array of islands that make up the Indonesian archipelago. Beginning in Singapore, cruise aboard the elegant Orion to Java, Bali, and the islands of Sumba and Sumbawa. Learn about the sandalwood trade and see megalithic tombs on Sumba; visit traditional villages and admire crafts on Sumbawa; and discover Java’s vast, ancient stone temple of Borobudur. Swim and snorkel in the clear waters off Satonda, cruise by Krakatau Island to see the remnants of a massive volcanic eruption, and visit Komodo Island, where rare Komodo dragons are found in the wild. Enjoy special dance and music performances, and marvel at dramatic scenery, from steaming volcanoes to emerald-green rice fields. Conclude the journey in exotic Bali, a lush tropical paradise.

    Terry Gosliner, the Senior Curator of Invertebrate Zoology at the California Academy of Sciences, studies the evolution, biodiversity, and conservation of nudibranchs (sea slugs). With the ocean as his living lab, Gosliner has discovered several new species.

    The Orion

    Technically and aesthetically, the 106-passenger, 5-star luxury expedition ship Orion is arguably the most sophisticated vessel in its class. Launched in 2003, the Orion has atotal of 53 spacious staterooms (27 suites, 220-345 sq.ft., and 26 staterooms, 175-210 sq.ft.)with ocean views, a separate seating area, en suite marble bathroom, generous storage space, safe, refrigerator, and flat-screen TV with DVD/CD player. All staterooms feature choice of queen-size or twin-bed configuration. Nine suites feature private French balconies.
