Croatia is located in the heart of Europe on the beautiful Adriatic coast and borders Italy, Slovenia and Hungary. It is a country of more than 1,100 islands, islets and reefs, most of them uninhabited and perfectly preserved. Some of the best-known resort towns along the Dalmatian coast are Dubrovnik, Split, Porec and Trogir, and all of them are UNESCO World Heritage sites. The Northern Adriatic resort of Opatija, known for its long tradition in hospitality, was a popular destination among European nobility.
Beyond its natural beauty, Croatia has been a center of culture for thousands of years. The east coast of the Adriatic Sea was inhabited as early as the beginning of the early Stone Age, and archaeological findings indicate that ancient Greeks and Romans founded colonies in Croatia. Croatia’s many treasures include crystal-clear seas, remote islands, unspoiled fishing villages, beaches, vineyards, Roman ruins, and medieval walled cities.
