A land of Byzantine and Roman ruins, Greek temples and medieval fortresses, Albania is a remarkable destination that has been overlooked by many travelers. Located along the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, Albania shares borders with Montenegro, Serbia, Macedonia, and Greece. Due to its placement at a crossroads between the Greek and Roman civilizations, Albania developed a culture infused by others, but wholly its own. Although it is one of the poorer countries in Europe, Albania is pursuing economic growth and modernization, and enjoys friendly relations with the U.S., which is providing significant aid to support Albania's long-term development.
